Q: My vehicle is new, does it need to be detailed?
Answer
The answer is, YES! Just because your vehicle is new doesn't necessarily mean the paint finish is flawless. Often times when a vehicle leaves the factory there are many paint imperfections that are missed by quality control personnel. Some of these imperfections are dirt specks, run lines, wet sanding marks, pig tails from a D/A sander, and hologramming from improper polishing techniques. The perfect service for you would be our Detail Polish
If the vehicle is shipped from out of state or travels by train it can be subject to many contaminants along the way with no protection. Then when it arrives at the car dealership many times the vehicle is washed improperly by inexperienced lot attendants causing scratches and swirl marks. Ideally before you take delivery ask them not to wash your vehicle.
Q: Are automatic car washes detrimental to the vehicle's paint finish?
Answer
All automatic car washes are abrasive and will eventually scratch and swirl your vehicles paint finish. Automatic car wash facilities spray harsh chemicals on your vehicle removing wax or any protection you may have on your vehicles paint surface. They are also known for scratching, etching and swirling your paintwork or clear coat, damaging exterior parts along with rubber moldings, license plates and antennas. We would never recommend taking your vehicle through an automatic wash tunnel.
Unlike an automatic car wash, at Personal Touch Mobile Detailing each and every hand wash or detail service we provide is tailored to suit your vehicles make and model. After our Detail Polish Plus service, which is a 4 step paint correction process that includes Clay, Compound, Wax, Polish and Sealant applied to your vehicle for a mirror finish. We can maintain your vehicle's paint finish all year round with our Matte Detail Wash. This is the only way to keep a perfect finish. Click the link in our bio to book your service today.
Q: What is car detailing?
Answer
The main focus of car detailing is to remove contaminates and scratches that can't be corrected by simply washing and waxing your vehicle. Getting your vehicle detailed will protect and eliminate scratches that are caused by driving on the highway and by not properly cleaning your vehicle.
To assist with protecting your vehicle's paint, the following is recommended:
Apply a ceramic coating or get your vehicle clayed, compounded, polished and applying a sealant. This will ensure long lasting protection from UV Rays and oxidation buildup.
Q: What are the benefits of getting your car detailed?
Answer
A complete car detail will bring your car to its best condition. You can then perform mini details to keep your car looking as good as new.
Car Value
Keeping your car in good condition will help maintain or restore the value of your car. This is particularly true of older or classic cars, especially if you're looking to sell your car in the future. You simply cannot get the same results from car washes. A good detailer will bring your car to its original beauty and increase its resale value.
Protection
Another benefit of auto detailing is the added protection against the elements. When a wax coat is routinely applied to the exterior painted surface, it protects the finish from contamination and oxidation (rust).
Attention to Detail
Since detailing is an incredibly thorough process, you can expect the detailer to meticulously assess every crevice of your car to suggest customized solutions. You will not get this kind of personalized service at a car wash.
Q: What's the difference between a car wax and a car polish?
Answer
Car wax and car polish are two very different things. While car polish is used to remove defects from a car's 'coat', car wax protects that coat. Car wax is essentially a protective layer which keeps a car looking shiny and new, regardless of age.
Car polish is a product that helps to eliminate surface scratches, swirls, oxidation, dirt, and other minor imperfections. Polish should be used before wax, as it helps to restore auto paint that has lost its shine due to oxidation. Car polish does this by removing a very fine layer of the paintwork so the appearance of scratches is minimized as they settle into the coat.
Car wax is a product that protects and enhances a car's paint coating. Wax is best used after cleaning and polishing to make your car's paintwork shine. It does this by smoothing out the painted surface by filling swirls and scratches with a protective coating. So instead of removing a fine layer of paint like polish does, car wax smooths out over on top the paint. So simply speaking, polish removes and wax smooths!
Q: What is a sealant? Why is it used?
Answer
Paint sealants are a synthetic car wax, while they do a similar job to a traditional car wax in that a paint sealant will protect your cars paintwork finish, they do have some unique properties of their own.
Made from synthetic ingredients as opposed to natural waxes and plant extracts, the durability of paint sealants is enhanced to upwards of 6 months. Secondly surface tension is reduced with paint sealants, whilst a car wax does a good job in shunning dirty water from paintwork, paint sealants shed water and grime far better meaning your car stays cleaner for longer longer, and it's easier to maintain on future washes.
Overall protection offered by paint sealants from UV damage, acid rain and industrial fallout is higher than offered by a traditional car wax. Paint sealants offer a different level of gloss, more a glass like reflectivity than the deep warm glow offered by a car wax, however paint sealants do excel in bringing out the flake in modern metallic/pearlescent finishes, leading them to be a popular choice with owners of silver vehicle.!
Q: What is a compound? What is it used for?
Answer
Compounding a car removes scratches by leveling the uneven paint surface. People sometimes confuse it with polishing. The latter is a broader term for removing paint defects and applying wax and sealant for protection. The key difference is the compounding or leveling agent applied. It acts like a liquid sand paper to remove a larger amount of clear coat layer and even out the surface.
Benefits of Compounding
Permanently Removes the Defect
Since the process of compounding smooths out the damaged areas of the paint, the paint correction is more permanent and will not come off after a few washings.
Q: What is tire dressing and interior conditioning?
Answer
Tire dressing is a product applied to tires to prevent them from dry rotting, adding a lubricant and new finish to the tire. Also after every wash you should apply a coating of tire depressing to your tires; this will help you preserve them. Tires and wheels are critical to the overall appearance of a car and yet are often overlooked.
The interior conditioning is applied to the leather and rubber trim of the inside of the vehicle. When applied properly to plastics and leather, the solution creates a protective layer that also has a new car kind of shine.
